"Earth on Fire - How volcanoes shape our planet" is the title of Bernhard Edmaier`s latest photo book, which has been published by Phaidon Press/London in October 2009. It features a wide range of volcanic phenomena and geothermal formations, mostly seen from the air.
It shows huge ash clouds of Mount Etna in Sicily and lavafountains of Nyamulagira volcano in Congo/Africa, colourful acid crater lakes in Central America, hot springs in Yellowstone/USA and in New Zealand.
Beside the "fiery and hot stuff" the book shows famous volcanic giants and their sourrounding landscapes photographed from a small aeroplane or a helicopter, for example Mount St. Helens and Cater Lake in Washington, Cotopaxi and Tungurahua in Ecuador, Gunung Agung in Bali and its neighbours on Java/Indonesia, the Kamchatkan volcanic chain in Russia and variaous African volcanoes along the East African Rift Valley - from Djibouti and Ethiopia to Kenya and Tanzania.
The book includes clear, accessible texts explaining key volcanic phenomena and events, written by Edmaier`s partner Dr. Angelika Jung-Huettl, geologist and science writer in Munich/Germany.
