In winter, the dark waters of the meandering river are in sharp contrast to the white snow mantle. The shadows of the leafless black alders on its banks draw a filigree pattern on the snow.
The River Kössein, also referred to as stream, is only few kilometres long and springs up from beneath the 939 m high peak of the Kössein, an impressive granite massif in the Fichtelgebirge mountain range.
