Approximately 180.000 cubic km of debris is transported by the River Achen from the Tyrol Alps to Lake Chiemsee every year. At its estuary the sand and debris spread over many tributaries. In this way, the delta pushes forward into the water and widens up to 25 m per year. In about 8000 years, the lake will become solid land.
