In the Bay of Ghoubbet in Djibouti, the earth surface is cracking slowly. Lava repeatedly flows out of the pervading clefts and cracks or is catapulted high into the air, forming small craters. The lava mantle reaches far into the sea where it will gradually be overgrown with coral reefs.
