WHITE ISLAND

The White Island volcano crater in the north of New Zealand resembles a horseshoe. In the middle of it, a steaming acid lake is to be found. Permanently running rainwater has engraved its walls and its scarred bottom is covered in places by a yellow sulphuric crust.
