The island of Montserrat in the Caribbean was a secret destination for rich tourists until 1995, when the Souffiere Hills volcano thought extinct for a long time suddenly erupted. Its cone has grown a few hundred metres higher within the previous five years and today is the highest point of the island. Repeatedly hundreds of degrees centigrade hot all searing clouds of glowing magma race down its flanks and gush into the sea.
