Giant icebergs cover the water of the Ilulissat Icefjord, which opens out into Disco Bay on the coast of West Greenland. They descend from the Jakobshavn Glacier located at the end of the 100 km long fjord. Currently, scientists are exploring the effects of global warming on the flow velocity of the glacier ice. Since 2004 the Ilulissat Icefjord has been declared a part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage.
