BIG MELT

SHELF ICE, EAST GREENLAND

The ice front of a glacier tongue floating on the sea water of Liverpoolland is nearly 30 m high. Melt water fills the depressions of the glacier ice as well as of the big ice junks, which drift around the tongue. The red spots on the ice are probably specialized algae.
