Iceland's Breidamerkurjökull Glacier has receded as much as 2 km since 1973, according to the measurements of NASA, the US American space agency. The ice mass belongs to the 40 outlet glaciers of Vatnajökull, the largest ice cap in Europe. NASA reports on its Internet pages: The glacier retreat has exposed a rapidly expanding lagoon, which is filled with icebergs calved from its front. The lagoon is 350 feet deep and has nearly doubled in size during the past decade.
