The Aletschgletscher is the largest and most famous glacier in the Alps. Its tongue is currently 24 km long. Moraine debris covers its surface. But even the Aletschgletscher is shrinking. The thinning and retreating ice exposes new rocky landscapes at the edge of its tongue.
